A Genuine Reset in the Middle of Kyoto's Busiest District

Kyoto can be exhausting in the best possible way. You walk more than expected, stand more than planned, and by the middle of the day your feet usually know it before the rest of you does. Arashiyu Gion Bettei was built for that moment.

Arashiyu began in Arashiyama as a foot bath specialty shop and became popular for combining seasonal flower filled baths with focused foot massage. In February 2024, the brand opened its Gion Bettei in one of Kyoto’s busiest sightseeing districts, close to Yasaka Shrine. The concept remains relaxation, but the presentation is more contemporary and more playful than the original.

The signature experience here is Hyakka Ryoran, offered only at the Gion Bettei. Guests soak their feet while digital flowers move across the water and floor, shifting through scenes inspired by the four seasons. It could have felt gimmicky. It does not. With incense and soft music in the room, the atmosphere stays calm and immersive.

The flow is straightforward. You begin with the foot bath, enjoy a drink and small sweets, move through the digital art sequence, then finish with a foot massage. Staff also rinse and dry your feet before the treatment begins. It is polished, but easy to enjoy.

The massage is where the experience becomes especially useful. After hours of walking in Kyoto, tired arches, calves, and ankles get real attention. Even the shorter courses can make a noticeable difference before you head back out into the city.

Arashiyu also uses its own bath additive with yuzu fragrance and moisturizing ingredients, giving the water a softer feel than plain hot water. It is a small touch, but one guests tend to remember.

Course options are simple. Hyakka Ryoran combines the digital art foot bath with massage in 30 or 50 minute formats. Other themes include seasonal flowers, matcha, salt, and green tea, each paired with massage and a drink. If it is your first visit, Hyakka Ryoran is the obvious choice.

Drinks include matcha, matcha latte, coffee, hojicha, and branch exclusive amazake. Guests range from couples and friends to solo travelers, with many international visitors as well.

This is not a historic Kyoto ritual. It is a modern recovery stop done well. For anyone exploring Gion and needing a genuine reset, it is easy to recommend.

Popular hours can fill quickly, so booking ahead is the safest move.
